1. Acceptance and eligibility

You must be 18 or older to use Rumi. You are responsible for your account and for keeping your login secure. When you create an account you confirm this statement:

2. What Rumi is, and what it is not

Rumi is a place where people describe themselves and the home they want, see others who have done the same, and choose for themselves whom to contact. Every match on Rumi is described by members and started by members.

Rumi is not a real estate broker, agent, landlord or housing provider. We do not own, lease, manage, list or offer any housing. We do not vet, screen, verify or background-check anyone, and we do not run credit checks or tenant screening. We do not provide lease templates, roommate agreements or any other contract. We do not collect, hold or process rent, deposits, application fees or any other payment between members, and we do not facilitate financial transactions. Any arrangement you make is between you and the other member.

3. Shared living in one household only

Rumi is for sharing a home: a room in a home where the person offering it also lives. You may not use Rumi to offer a separate unit, an apartment, a whole house, or any home you do not live in yourself.

4. How the directory works

Rumi never decides whom you see based on who you are. You may choose a browse filter for yourself (All, Women, Men or Other). It starts at All, you can change it at any time, and it only changes what you see. Starting a conversation takes a request that the other member accepts, so you both choose.

5. Describe yourself, don't restrict others

Your profile, bio and listing describe you, your home and your routines. They may not exclude or discourage anyone because of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), national origin, familial status (for example, having children), disability, age, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. Statements such as "no kids" or "only people of one religion" are not allowed. Describe your own home instead, for example "quiet house" or "no alcohol in the home".

We may remove content that breaks this rule, and we may filter slurs. You can report a profile or message for discriminatory content, and we review every report.

6. Your content and conduct

You own and are responsible for what you post. Describe yourself honestly; do not harass, impersonate, scam, or use the service unlawfully. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms.

7. No payments

Rumi is free. We do not charge you to list, browse, connect or message, and no payment details are collected.

8. Photos and privacy

Photos are optional and private. They are shown only after you are connected and you both agree to share them. See the Privacy Policy for details.

9. Fair housing

You are responsible for following the housing laws that apply to you, including fair-housing laws. Rumi does not make housing decisions for you.

10. Safety

Because we do not vet anyone, meet in public first, tell someone you trust, and use your own judgment. You can block or report any member at any time.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Rumi is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. We do not vet members, verify listings, or guarantee that any home, person or arrangement is as described. To the fullest extent the law allows, Rumi and the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service or from any arrangement you make with another member, and our total liability to you will not exceed one hundred dollars.

12. Termination, changes and governing law

You can delete your account at any time by emailing salaam@findyourrumi.com. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms. We may change these terms; when we do, we update the version date at the top and email members about material changes. Continued use after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
